There is nothing like a lovingly restored motor vehicle to capture the interest of residents and visitors to Oakdale Residential Village.

There is nothing like a lovingly restored motor vehicle to capture the interest of residents and visitors to Oakdale Residential Village.
This beauty was restored by Gary, our resident caretaker, a project that commenced during COVID and is now almost complete. The 1970 Dodge was left abandoned on a rural property until discovered by Gary and so commenced the painstaking and sometimes frustrating task of bringing the Dodge back to its former glory.

Fortunately, Gary knows his way around motor vehicles having worked around trucks and cars all his life. Just as important was Gary’s determination and the patience of his supporting wife Fiona to see the job through. While Gary was working on the Dodge, Fiona was establishing a beautiful garden with a fantastic display of roses, as can be seen below.

Gary and Fiona made Oakdale Residential Village their home in late 2019, moving into a beautiful brand new 2-bedroom modular home supplied by Hi-tech Modular Homes.

Not only did they move to be closer to family, they also released equity previously locked up in the land component of their previous property. Being of a generation who didn’t have a substantial superannuation balance, freeing up funds for retirement was a very important consideration.

Six years on, Gary and Fiona are still enjoying life at Oakdale Residential Village and are looking forward to the many improvements planned for the Village in the next 2 years including a swimming pool, BBQ and recreation area as well as a community building which will be home to many wonderful community events.

“We enjoy the peace and quiet of living in a smaller residential village and we are excited about its future development. We look forward to welcoming new residents and establishing new friendships.”

After years of planning and working cooperatively with Wollondilly Shire Council

After years of planning and working cooperatively with Wollondilly Shire Council, work will be commencing shortly to upgrade the facilities and infrastructure of Oakdale Caravan Park.

The objective is to provide quality affordable housing to the over fifties demographic, in a peaceful and secure community.

The new name of Oakdale Residential Village will reflect the future operation of the business primarily as a Land Lease Community, although there will remain a limited number of short-term sites.

Land Lease living is increasing in popularity with many people seeing the benefits of owning their home but leasing the site on which it is located. As land is an expensive component of any property purchase, it provides an affordable housing option, which in the case of downsizing, releases funds for other purposes. The Residential (Land Lease) Communities Act 2013 provides protection to the homeowner and the community operator, primarily through the signing of a Residential Site Agreement.

Other advantages of Land Lease living include:

  • No stamp duty on purchase
  • No council rates or strata levies
  • No exit fees when selling, any capital gain is yours
  • Protection of a Residential Site Agreement for the term of the lease
  • You pay a weekly site fee, which in certain circumstances may be offset by government rental assistance
  • The security, lifestyle and sense of community

Upgrades will include:

  • Demolition of the fibro dwelling at the entrance
  • New community room for residents
  • A new laundry and BBQ Shelter
  • Installation of a swimming pool (subject to Council approval)
  • Sealed internal roads
  • Security gates
  • Extensive landscaping

The business will be offering a limited number of sites of varying sizes which would suit either one-, two- or three-bedroom modular homes. An open day at the Village at 1458 Burragorang Road Oakdale will be held on 26 June 2024.
