Resident Spotlight

Introducing Kay, a long-term resident of Oakdale Residential Village for over 13 years. Kay shares her cosy Villa, pictured below, with her much loved 3-year-old rag doll cat Zina. Before Zina, Kay lovingly cared for a beautiful little dog called Poco who sadly passed away and is very much missed by Kay and other residents of the Village.

Kay loves the companionship and the unconditional love provided by pets. Both Zina and Poco before her have been looked after very well, with great care taken to ensure her pets do not impact other residents of the Village or the native wildlife.

“When Poco was alive, I always made sure he was on a lead when he was walked, and I always cleaned up after him. Zina is either inside or in a cat run in my backyard, so she is not a threat to native wildlife. We have many wonderful native birds which visit the Village, and I don’t want them harmed or discouraged in anyway. I like to think I am a responsible pet owner”

Kay

Kay has had an interesting life having been born in Singapore, her father being posted to Singapore as a member of the British Royal Air Force. She lived in various countries until returning to Cornwall in England and then moving to Australia in 1972. She then worked in a variety of jobs until retiring and moving to Oakdale Residential Village in 2013.

Kay has seen many changes in the 13 years she has lived at Oakdale Residential Village. Many of the older cabins have been removed making way for new modular homes, with plenty of sites still available for those who wish to take advantage of the affordable housing options available within a secure Land Lease community. They own their own home and lease the site from the Village.

Besides looking after Zina, Kay enjoys gardening and reading. She is looking forward to assisting in the soon to be established community garden. Interested residents will be able to grow their own herbs and vegetables with any surplus produce being available for sale to raise money for selected charities.

Final words from Kay

“I love the peace and quiet here. Gary & Fiona, the resident caretakers do a wonderful job maintaining the Village and have made it a great place to live. It is improving all the time.

I don’t intend to go anywhere and am looking forward to the many improvements which will be happening in the next couple of years.”

Why Land Lease Community Living Is Growing in Popularity

Land Lease community living continues to grow in popularity for a number of reasons — one of the key advantages being the ability to lease the land your home sits on, rather than purchasing it outright which is a very expensive component of any real estate purchase.

Oakdale Residential Village is continuing its development as a thriving land lease community, with sites currently available for the installation of manufactured homes. These homes — sometimes referred to as modular homes — are constructed off-site and delivered in either a single module or multiple modules, then carefully installed and completed on site.

Many people are either unfamiliar with the concept of manufactured homes or mistakenly believe they are inferior to traditional brick-on-slab construction. Usually however, everyone provided with the opportunity to inspect a completed and installed manufactured home, are pleasantly surprised with the design, quality and overall appearance of the final product.

Manufactured homes come together in a factory environment where the process is under constant supervision, which ensures the home is manufactured to the highest standard and finish.

With much of the construction completed in a controlled factory environment, there are minimal delays caused by bad weather. This allows for a far more efficient build schedule, with most homes typically completed within 14–16 weeks from commencement to installation onsite.

Our manufactured home supplier is Hi-Tech Modular Homes, conveniently located nearby in Bringelly. Hi-Tech has a 30 year plus history of designing, manufacturing and installing manufactured homes, not only for residential villages and caravan parks but for the wider community.

Hi-Tech Modular Homes and Oakdale Residential Village have come together to develop designs specifically to suit the needs of Village residents.
